Disable android wireless quality checking
In an update of Android OS Google introduced the smart auto wireless performance checking.
When connecting to a wireless network you would see, “checking the quality of your internet connection”
Effectively android checks the speed of the wireless connection to the Internet if its not stable or quick enough this thr connection is deemed unsuitable for use and then disconnects you or will leave you on the mobile network provider.
This can be a problem in web cafes and hotel wireless where they block the ability to check, force signup or the speed is just to slow. This also slows the wireless negotiation process down and can be rather frustrating all round..
Resolution: disable the smart network switch under wireless settings
Android – settings cog – wifi – and untick smart network switch

6 August 2016I can see this being a good feature for the novice . However I like to control my battery usage so my phone lasts throughout the day . Also as a computer technician I use my phone to configure new equipment . This feature constantly drops the connection if the new device is not connected to the internet. Using the toggle as you suggested does not work on my android 4.4.2 samsung note 2. Any suggestions ?

14 August 2016I heard reports of an update breaking the wifi components of the 4.4.2 kitkat. I think potentially forgetting the existing connection and readding it or a soft reset is the general advice? good luck.

3 July 2017My smart network switch is off and it still wastes 2-3 minutes checking the quality of the internet.
